Japanese Sign Language (JSL) is the sign language used in Japan. It is a distinct language from spoken Japanese and other sign languages like ASL. 日本手話 (JSL) は日本で使われている手話です。日本語の話し言葉や、ASL（アメリカ手話） などの他の手話とは異なる独自の言語です。
JSL also has a syllabary, which makes it easy to fingerspell Japanese words. This website is designed to help you learn and practice reception of fingerspelled words in JSL. If you wish to learn actual JSL, I'm afraid you'll find this website lacking, as it can only help with fingerspelling reception. 日本手話にも五十音があり、日本語の単語を指文字で簡単に表すことができます。このサイトは、 日本手話の指文字の読み取りを学習・練習できるように設計されています。実際の日本手話の表現を学びたい場合、 このサイトは指文字の読み取りに特化しているため、物足りないかもしれません。
This website is inspired by asl.ms - a lightweight website for practicing fingerspelling reception in American Sign Language. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a similar website for JSL, so I decided to create it! I used Gemini and images of my own hands to do it. このサイトは、アメリカ手話の指文字読み取りを練習できる軽量サイト asl.ms に影響を受けています。残念ながら、日本手話用の似たようなサイトが見つからなかったため、自分で作ることにしました！ 作成にはGeminiと自分の手の画像を使用しています。
I've included categories and the ability to input your own word list because in my limited experience with ASL fingerspelling, there is often some context to help guess what the word is. I also added some features to help me (the creator of this website) learn, as a complete beginner. Specifically, I added filters for the word lists, stats, the ability to force specific Hiragana to appear, and a share-able daily challenge. If you have ideas for additional features, I'm happy to hear them, but since I work full time there may be some delay in my response. (Sorry if I never quite get to it, and thanks for your understanding.) アメリカ手話（ASL）の指文字でのわずかな経験から、単語を推測する手がかりとなる文脈がよくあるため、 カテゴリや独自の単語リストを入力できる機能を追加しました。また、全くの初心者である私（このサイトの作成者）自身が学習しやすいように、 いくつかの機能も追加しました。具体的には、単語リストのフィルター、統計情報、特定のひらがなを強制的に表示させる機能、 そして共有可能なデイリーチャレンジです。追加機能のアイデアがあれば喜んでお聞きしますが、私はフルタイムで働いているため、 対応が遅れる場合があります。（もし実現できなかった場合は申し訳ありません。ご理解のほどよろしくお願いいたします。）
A note on the hand images: they are not meant to be a perfect representation of JSL fingerspelling. I took pictures of my own hands and edited them to look more like the corresponding Hiragana character, but they may not be exactly how a native JSL signer would fingerspell.
